Bhuvan ISRO wikimapia will help educational institutions in India in a great way. The ISRO – Indian Space Research Organization India is planning to launch Google Earth like service called Bhuvan. ISRO will unveil its wikimapia – mapping service for the common man to zoom into any part of the world on their personal computer using satellite images.
ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair will unveil the Bhuvan webportal at a function here tomorrow in the presence of Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan.
Meaning of Bhuvan: Bhuvan means earth in Sanskrit language.
More about Bhuvan from ISRO: The new mapping service Bhuvan will allow users to have a closer look at any part of the subcontinent barring except for sensitive locations such as military and nuclear installations.
Bhuvan will use images taken by ISRO’s seven remote sensing satellites at least a year ago. These eyes in the sky can capture images of objects as small as a car on the road to build three-dimensional map of the world.
Bhuvan’s advantage for educational institutes
Bhuvan will combine the powers of ISRO’s satellite fleet to provide a high-resolution zoom of India with a zoom capable of focusing on a target as small as 10 metres wide, compared to the zoom limit of 200 metres on Google Earth in December 2008. This will sure help educational institutes and students in India to carry out their research work with high degree of precision and more reliable data.
