The Chandigarh Police on Sunday october 10th, 2009 arrested four youths on charges of impersonation, cheating and criminal conspiracy. They were nabbed by the DAV College authorities in Sector 10, where they had come to appear as dummy candidates in an examination for the recruitment of constables in the Chandigarh Police.
The four, who were friends and relatives of the actual candidates, were nabbed when the college authorities noticed that the photographs on the identity cards were not theirs.
The college authorities raised the alarm and called the police. The accused later admitted that they had come to take the examination as the original candidates were not intelligent enough to clear the exam. The accused include Jhajjar resident Sujit Kumar, Sushil Kumar and Surinder Doon from Sonepat, and Manoj from Kaithal.
Sujit is a friend of Amit Kumar, who had applied for the test. While Sushil appeared on behalf of Rakesh, Surinder Doon and Manoj impersonated their cousins, Kuldeep and Kuldeep Kundu respectively. The four, interestingly, did not know each other.
“The actual candidates seem to be very weak in studies. These four are from different villages and came to help them. They will be produced before a court on Monday,” said Station House Officer (SHO), Sector 3, Mahavir Singh.
