karthika Pournami or karthika Pournami 2009 or Kartik Purnima is full moon day the Kartik month in a traditional Hindu calendar. Kartik Purnima 2009 date is November 2. The most important event includes the conclusion of the Kartik Snan – Holy dip in Ganga River.Thousands of people also converge at the Pushkar Lake in Rajasthan to take part in a holy bath on Kartik Poornima day.It is said that a mere darshan of River Ganga at Garh Mukteshwar will get Moksha (salvation).

This is a highly auspicious day and numerous rituals and pujas are held on the Poornima day.

Tulsi Vivah, or Tulsi Puja, which commenced on Kartik Shukla Paksha Ekadasi concludes on Kartik Purnima day. The month-long rituals held at the Puri Jagannath Temple also conclude on the day.

Kartik Purnima is observed as Dev Diwali. It is the Diwali of the Gods and also concludes fortnight of Diwali celebrations for many Hindu communities.

It is believed that Lord Shiva killed demon Tripurasura on the day and helped the demi-gods and saints. Therefore the day is also known as Tripura Purnima.
