CM Ashok Gehlot decided after high level meeting on monday night to close Govt, semi-govt and private schools in rajasthan. The state government has decided to postpone the mid-term exams in schools till Class VIII as an intense cold wave swept across the state. In Jaipur, the temperature dropped to one of the lowest of the season at 2.1 degrees Celsius, about 6 degrees below normal while there is no respite in sight at Mount Abu either.

Education minister Bhanwarlal Meghwal said the mid-term examination in schools till Class VIII has been postponed while the exams of Class XI to XII would be held between 10 am and 5 pm. The directions have been issued to all district collectors and education officers in this regard. No exams would be held in the morning from 7 to 10 am, he said. This comes close on the heels of the state government declaring a five-day holiday from Tuesday in all government and private schools in the state considering the prevailing cold wave.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperature in Mount Abu rose by 1 degrees to -4.4 degrees Celsius. The morning remained foggy at many places in the region. On Tuesday also the people in Jaisalmer and Mount Abu woke up to see water frozen in the open fields, crops, trees, bushes and on the glasses of vehicles, which melted until the rays of sun emerged.

Met office said severe cold wave to cold wave conditions are prevailing in many parts of east Rajasthan, Delhi, east Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and interior Orissa. Northerly and north-westerly cold dry winds are making life hard for the people over northwest, central and east India. A feeble western disturbance may bring some relief from December 6 on wards, said a Met official.
