Candidate can register ONLINE according to the instructions. Candidate can also register Offline using the prescribed Optical Machine Readable (OMR) Application Form which can be obtained by cash purchase from bank branches given below with effect from 11 November, 2011.

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh on May 23, 2011 (Monday) reported that, “There is hardly any worthwhile research from our IITs. The faculty in the IIT is not world class. It is the students in IITs who are world class. So the IITs ( Indian Institute of Technology) and IIMs ( Indian Institute of Management) are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty.

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh was also an IIT alumni from Mumbai, who attained his BTech degree in mechanical engineering in 1975. On his ministry’s decision Jairam Ramesh said, to have a joint venture with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and to set up a National Centre for Marine Biodiversity in Jamnagar, the decision was taken as a world class research centre, which cannot be built in a “governmental set up” and can never attract young talent people. “So we want to think differently. We have to think differently, how we are going to organise our research institutions.

Jairam Ramesh said, we are having a joint venture with Reliance to set up a world class national centre for marine biodiversity as Jamnagar is also the site for India’s first marine national park, which would be a new centre that would focus exclusively on the conservation of our marine biodiversity.

More than 15,000 students appeared in the joint entrance examination (JEE) of the Indian Institute of Technology, in city on April 10th, 2011.Commenting on the overall paper, Vivek Pandey, a physics teacher said, “JEE came as a shock for the students, as there were no fresh type questions this time. No change in paper pattern was observed, as compared to last year. There was less negative marking than previous years.”

An average cut off, as educationists analyse would be nearly 40%. “A score between 50-60 would be an ideal and would help a student get a popular branch,” according to sources.

As many as 4,85,262 aspirants registered themselves for IIT-JEE 2011 examination at 1,051 centres in 131 cities across the country. From IIT-Kanpur zone, more than 80,000 students took the exam. Out of the national total; 1,13,942 girl aspirants across seven IIT zones took the JEE test. The highest number of girl candidates of 20,546 was registered from IIT-Chennai zone. This was followed by IIT-Roorkee zone, where 16,976 girl candidates applied. IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur stood on the third and fourth spot with 16,877 and 16,770 girl aspirants respectively. The highest number of boys were from IIT-Bombay zone, where registration of 68,735 students was done.

As far as the number of centres are concerned, IIT-Bombay zone had a maximum of 185 examination centres, followed by IIT-Kanpur zone, which had 173 centres, and IIT-Madras with 156 centres. The JEE results will be declared on May 25. Only then, the scanned images of optical response sheet (answer sheet) with the candidates’ details will be displayed on the JEE website.

• Medical examination and counseling for qualified PD will be held from June 8-10, 2011.

The test was conducted in 7 zones. The IIT Bombay zone produced maximum number of successful candidates with 3145 students figuring in the merit list followed by IIT Madras (2619), IIT Delhi (2264), IIT Kharagpur (1481), IIT Kanpur (1341), IIT Roorkee (1305) and IIT Guwahati (521).

While 1.13 lakh girls appeared in the test, 1476 qualified. About 554 candidates in Hindi medium have qualified for the entrance test which is a three fold rise over last year’s 184.

Akanksha T Sarda is IIT JEE AIR 18 is the girl Topper in JEE 2010. Among 1.3 lakh girls who took the Entrance exam, Akansha Tushar Sarda with All India Rank 18 emerged as the IIT-JEE 2010 topper among the girls. 14-year-old Sahal Kaushik, IIT Delhi all-India rank of 33.

The test was conducted by a total of seven zones, each under an IIT. The IIT Bombay zone emerged with the maximum number of successful candidates.

Along with these toppers, a total of 13,104 candidates would be eligible for admissions in the renowned IITs, ISM Dhanbad and IT BHU. Starting May 27th, these students will have their online counseling sessions, introduced this year.
